Selecting Edit - Ortho places the Project Editor in the orthogonal mode. This will affect you in two ways. First, if you add a polygon while the Ortho feature is active, the Project Editor will only allow horizontal, vertical or multiples of the angle selected in the Ortho Mode Angles drop list in the Snap Setup dialog box. Shown below are polygons created in orthogonal mode. The top two polygons were both created when the Ortho mode angle was 30 degrees and the bottom polygon when the Ortho mode was 45 degrees.

Second, when moving a selected object or point, the movement of an object is limited to moving at multiples of the angle selected in the Ortho Mode Angles drop list in the Snap\ Ortho page. For example, if 45 degrees is selected, then an object may be moved in the horizontal plane (0 degrees), in the vertical plane (90 degrees) and along an axis of 45 degrees as shown below. Available angles are 90, 45, 30, 22.5, and 5. The default is 45.

TIP: Holding down the shift key while adding, moving, or editing a polygon will place you in orthogonal mode temporarily.
