This page is for all users except Sonnet Lite users. If you are a Sonnet Lite user, please refer to Setup Sonnet Lite.
Selecting the Setup tab in the License page of the Sonnet Administration dialog box allows you to set up your licensing and enable your software. If you do not yet have a license, you can request a license at www.sonnetsoftware.com/license. Licensing information will be emailed to you from Sonnet; follow the instructions in the email. Please save a copy of this email for future reference.
Once you receive this email and follow the instructions, you need to open this dialog box by selecting Admin - License from the main menu of the session tab, then click on Setup if the tab is not already selected.
There are two categories of licenses: Local or Remote. You must select your license category by clicking on the appropriate radio button. Descriptions of the category are below. Further down are links to common licensing scenarios with instructions on using this dialog box.
Local: A local license is one in which the software running on your computer accesses the license file or the computer on which your are running is the license server. Examples of local license use are:
License File: You should enter the location of the "sonnet.lic" file sent to you from Sonnet by clicking on the Install New License File button to open a Browse window which allows you to select the file on your computer. When you click on the OK button, the emailed license file is copied to your Sonnet directory. Normally, the license file you enter is copied to a default location. If you wish to place the license file used by the License Manager in another location, you can define a different default location in the sonnet.ini file. To open the Lmtools interface, click on the Lmtools button. For directions on using Lmtools, please refer to the appropriate installation manual. If the license manager is already running with an old version of the Sonnet license file, you may click on Install New License File first to copy the new license file to the Sonnet installation folder, and then click on Reread License File to instruct the running license manager to read the contents of the new license file and then update itself accordingly.
Remote: In this category, you are running your software on this computer, but the license server is on another machine. You must purchase a floating or site license in order to do this.
License Server Hostname: This text entry box is only enabled when the Remote radio button is selected. Enter the name or IP address of the computer that is the license server in this text entry box.
Port Number: The socket port number which is used to communicate with the license manager.
Install license for all users (requires administration permissions): Select this checkbox if you wish to create this license for all user accounts instead of only creating the license in a single user account.
Please note that once this check box is selected, all subsequent updates of the license for any of the affected users will require administration permissions regardless of whether this checkbox is selected or not.
