Component - Data File

Parent Previous Next

You select Insert - Component - Data File in order to add a component to your geometry that is modeled with a user specified S, Y, or Z-Parameter file, the Component Properties dialog box is opened with Data File selected in the Component type drop list. When you have finished specifying all of the parameters and close the dialog box, you click in your circuit to place each port of the data file. The number of ports is automatically determined from the data file.

Using Variables in this dialog box

For the Data File component type, the analysis engine, em, first performs an electromagnetic analysis on the geometry, and then uses circuit theory to connect the data file to the geometry. This allows you to subsequently change the data files used by your component without performing the electromagnetic analysis another time on your geometry.

The data file can be the result of another simulation or measured data from an actual component. There is no limit to the number of ports you may use for a component.

S, Y, Z-Parameter File: Enter the desired data file in this text entry box. You may edit the contents directly or click on the Browse button to open a window which allows you to select a data file on your computer.

You may use Touchstone formatted data for your data file. The usual extension is sNp or sNN where N is the number of ports for a file with nine ports or less and NN is the number of ports when there are ten or more ports.
