Pin Placement in Cadence Virtuoso

Cadence Virtuoso Interface - Ports Section

For the best translation of pins into the Sonnet environment, we recommend using a shape pin of the type “rect.” You want to draw the pin on the same drawing layer where you wish to attach the Sonnet port to the metal trace.  For example, if your metal trace is drawn on “metal1”, you want to draw your pin on the “metal1” level, whose purpose is “pin,” as well. The pin should be placed across the edge of the metal trace to which you wish the Sonnet port attached, as pictured below. It is not necessary to be overly precise in placing your pin; during the translation, the center point of the pin is snapped to the closest available edge of a polygon as shown below.  If the pin is located on the bounding box, it is converted to a Sonnet box wall port; if the pin is not on the bounding box, it is converted to a co-calibrated port. Once the translation is complete, open the design in Sonnet’s project editor (Tools => Project Editor => View 2D) to ensure that the location of the ports is correct.
