The dielectric defined here is to be used for a dielectric layer in your circuit.

Mat. Name: Enter the desired name for the dielectric material to be used in the layer here.

Thickness: Enter the desired thickness of the dielectric layer here. It is possible to also edit this value in the Dielectric Layers dialog box.

Specify Using: You may chose to define your dielectric loss using Conductivity or Resistivity. Select whichever value you have available for your dielectric material. The dialog box is updated to include a text entry box for whichever choice you make in the drop list.

Number of Copies: Enter the number of dielectric layers you wish to add to your circuit. This field allows you to enter multiple identical layers to your circuit. Each layer will be of the specified thickness and use the same loss parameters. The default value is one layer. This field only appears when you are adding a new dielectric layer to your circuit.

Anisotropic: If you wish the dielectric material to be anisotropic, indicating that its parameters are different in each dimension, click on this checkbox. The dialog box is updated with an additional set of entries; one for the x and y (view in the project editor) direction and one for the z direction. You can then enter the parameters by editing the entries in the row.

Erel: Enter the relative dielectric constant here.

Dielectric Loss Tan: Enter the dielectric loss tangent here.

Conductivity: Enter the dielectric conductivity here. This text entry box only appears when "Conductivity" is selected in the Specify Using drop list.

Resistivity: Enter the dielectric resistivity here. This text entry box only appears when "Resistivity" is selected in the Specify Using drop list.

Mrel: Enter the relative magnetic permeability here.

Mag Loss Tan: Enter the magnetic loss tangent of the dielectric layer material here.

Select Dielectric from Library: Click on this button to select a dielectric material from your dielectric library to use in a dielectric layer. The Dielectric Library dialog box is opened.

The dielectric defined here is to be used for a dielectric brick in your circuit. Note that a dielectric brick uses the Mrel and Mag Loss Tan parameters of the dielectric layer in which it is embedded. Therefore, there are no fields present for these two values.

Pattern: Use the arrow buttons to step through the available display patterns you may assign to this brick material. This pattern is used to identify this dielectric brick material when it is used in your circuit.

Anisotropic: If you wish the brick material to be anisotropic, indicating that its parameters are different in each dimension, click on this checkbox. The dialog box is updated so that there are three sets of entries; one each for the x, y and z direction. You can then enter the parameters of the brick material by editing the entries in the row.

Erel: Enter the relative dielectric constant here.

Dielectric Loss Tan: Enter the dielectric loss tangent here.

Conductivity: Enter the dielectric conductivity here. This text entry box only appears when "Conductivity" is selected in the Specify Using drop list.

Resistivity: Enter the dielectric resistivity here. This text entry box only appears when "Resistivity" is selected in the Specify Using drop list.

Fields in which you may enter a variable instead of a constant value are identified with a drop down list, an example of which is pictured below.  The list includes the entry <Add Variable> in addition to any existing parameters. Selecting <Add Variable> from the list opens the Add/Edit Variable dialog box to allow you to create the variable. If an existing variable is entered, then the entry <Edit Variable> appears in the list. Selecting this entry opens the Add/Edit Variable dialog box to allow you to edit the presently selected variable.

Note that directly typing in the name of a variable which is not yet defined, instead of selecting <Add Variable> from the drop list, also causes the Add/Edit Variable dialog box to appear when this dialog box is closed so that you can define the new variable.
