Using Linux as the License Server

Parent Previous Next

If you have a network with both Linux and Windows platforms, it is possible to run the Windows software with a Linux license server administrating the licenses. This requires that you have the Sonnet 17 release installed on your Linux license server.

    1.  Each PC on your network needs to know the name/address of the Linux license server. To determine if your PC already “knows” the license server, open an MS-DOS Prompt window on the PC and type:

ping <hostname>

where <hostname> is the name of the Linux server.

If the Windows PC knows the server machine, it will respond to this command by indicating that it received a reply from the Linux machine. Please verify that the returned IP address is the IP address of your server. If the IP address is not correct or if you do not receive an answer to your ping, please see your system administrator.

    1.  You will need to use the Admin  License command on each Windows PC on the network and input the Linux server information in the License Server Hostname text entry box.
