Emserver Advanced Settings dialog box

Sonnet Task Bar - Emserver Settings/Control dialog box

The Emserver Advanced Settings dialog box is opened when you click on the Advanced button in the Emserver Status/Control window. This dialog box allows you to control log and trace files, startup settings, refresh settings and server settings. There are four tabs in the dialog box: Server, Status, Data, and Log/Trace. For details, see the pertinent section below.

Server Tab

The server settings are the name and port address which the client machine should use when communicating with a remote server. The name may be entered as either a string of text characters or as an IP address in the Server name or IP address text entry box. The default port address is 56150. If this port is already in use on the server machine, another available port should be entered here. Note that the port number for the server defined on the client must be the same as the port entered here. You may also enter a brief description of the server in the text entry box provided. See the Preferences dialog box in the analysis monitor for details on defining a remote server on a client machine.

You may set up emserver to start automatically upon startup of the server machine. Click on the Start Emserver at Powerup checkbox to start emserver at Powerup. To use a service to automatically start emserver you should also click on the Use Services checkbox. These checkboxes are only enabled for Windows systems. For Linux operating systems, you must run the program soninstallservice. For details, please refer to the Remote em Computing manual, available in PDF format on the Administration and Installation page of the PDF manuals. To access the PDF manuals, click on the Manuals button on the Sonnet task bar.

If you wish to start emserver manually in cases where emserver is only used occasionally, you may do so by clicking on the Start Emserver button in the Emserver Status/Control window.

Status Tab

This tab contains the Refresh Setting which controls how often emserver is polled for a status update. The default is every 30 seconds. If you wish to change the status refresh rate, entered the desired time (in seconds) in the entry box. If you wish to obtain a present status, without waiting for an automatic update, click on the Refresh button in the Emserver Status/Control window.

Data Tab

This tab contains the specification of the emserver data directory on the analysis server and the timeout for a disconnected job.

When an analysis job is submitted to emserver from an analysis client, the Sonnet project is copied to a temporary location on the analysis server. Once the analysis is complete, the project copy is deleted from the analysis server. The Data Directory is the location on the analysis server to which you wish to write the temporary project. You may specify the data directory by editing the text entry box or clicking on the Browse button to the right to open a browse window which allows you to select the directory.

If the analysis client becomes unavailable while emserver is running a job from that client, the job becomes a disconnected project. Emserver will complete the analysis and write the results to the copy of the project. The project from the disconnected job is held for the number of days entered in the Remove disconnected project after text entry box. If the analysis client has not recovered the disconnected job in this number of days, emserver deletes the disconnected job from the data directory.

Log/Trace Tab

Log File Settings: A log file is maintained on emserver, and is often useful when troubleshooting any problems with emserver. Enter the desired location of the log file in the Log Filename text entry box or alternately, you may click on the Browse window to the right of the entry box, which opens a browse window which allows you to select the location of the log file. Once the correct log file is specified, you may view its contents by clicking on the View log file button. The log file is opened in a standard text editor. If you wish to start a new log file each time your server is rebooted, click on the New log file on startup checkbox. Otherwise, the new information after a reboot is appended to the end of the pre-existing log file.

Trace File Settings: A trace file is maintained on emserver, and is often useful when troubleshooting any problems with emserver. This file would most often be used at the direction of Sonnet technical support. Enter the desired location of the trace file in the Trace Filename text entry box or alternately, you may click on the Browse window to the right of the entry box, which opens a browse window which allows you to select the location of the trace file. Once the correct trace file is specified, you may view its contents by clicking on the View trace file button. The trace file is opened in a standard text editor.

You may select to what level you wish the trace file to capture information. Select the desired level from the Trace Level drop list. The levels range from 0, meaning no tracing, to 5, the maximum amount of details.
